Google doodles leaping frogs; Gioachino Rossini's birthday

Google has doodled a rare two-in-one doodle that commemorates not only the leap day but also the 220th birth anniversary of the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini.

Since the leap years and leap days are usually associated with frogs, the leaping ambhibians, the Google doodle on February 29 has a number of frogs, all four of them.

The doodle is inspired by Gioachino Antonio Rossini's famous 1816 comic opera The Barber of Seville (Il barbiere di Siviglia), one of the most performed operas. Of the four frogs in the scene, one is at the piano and the soprano is the only one leaping. The barber frog is Figaro and the frog getting a shave is Count Almaviva (Characters created by French playright Pierre Beaumarchais and The Barber of Seville is one of the three Figaro plays penned by him).

Rossini's other famous operas include William Tell (1829), Semiramide (1823) and Cinderella (1817). Gioachino Rossini was born on February 29, 1792 (died November 13, 1868). The possibility of someone's birthday falling on February 29 is 1 in 1461 (as four years including a leap year have 1461 days in total) that in turn calculates to a mere 0.068 per cent chance.

The Gioachino Rossini leap year Google doodle is the third leap year doodle in Google's history. The previous two were put up on 2004 and 2008. There was no leap day doodle in the year 2000.

By our calculations this is the 1314th Google doodle since the first ever on for the Burning Man Festival back on August 30, 1998.

Dad Performs His Own Daughter's Boob Job- Full Video

California-based surgeon Michael Niccole tells ABC's "20/20" that operating on his daughter, Brittani, is really no big deal: "I've done surgery on my other sons, my wife, my cousins, my father, and I feel very comfortable."

He also did Brittani's nose job when she was 21 and regularly injects his other daughter, 23-year-old Charm, with Botox in her armpits -- "so I stop sweating," she says.

The Niccoles' story, as well as Joan Rivers' and a woman who got her boobs done at 83, are part of "The Cutting Edge," a new episode of "20/20" set to air Friday, 10 p.m. EST.

As Barbara Walters informed George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America" today, the episode will focus on several "trends," including plastic surgery and cosmetic enhancement spanning the generations and what kind of procedures men like to get.

Argentina Train Accident- Full Video

Wednesday, killing several people and injuring hundreds of morning commuters, authorities said.

"There are fatalities," said Alberto Crescenti, the city's emergency medical director. He declined to say how many, but when asked about reports that as many as 40 had died, he replied, "It's possible."

Forty deaths would be the highest death toll from a train accident since Feb. 1, 1970, when a train smashed into another at full speed in suburban Buenos Aires, killing 200 people.

Crescenti said at least 550 people were injured, and said that 30 people remain trapped inside the first car, where rescuers carved open the roof and set up a pulley system to extract them.

The commuter train came in too fast and hit the barrier at the end of the platform at about 12 mph (20 kph), smashing the front of the engine and crunching the leading cars behind it; one car penetrated nearly 20 feet (six meters) into the next, Argentina's transportation secretary, J.P. Schiavi told reporters at the station.

Most damaged was the first car, where passengers make space for bicycles. Survivors told the TeleNoticias channel that many people were injured in a jumble of metal and glass.

There have been five serious train accidents since Dec. 2010; the most deadly of these happened last Sept. 13, when a bus driver crossed the tracks in front of an oncoming train, killing 11.

"This machine left the shop yesterday and the brakes worked well. From what we know, it braked without problems at previous stations. At this point I don't want to speculate about the causes," Ruben Sobrero, union chief on the Sarmiento line, told Radio La Red.

President Obama sings Sweet Home Chicago- Full Video

Tuesday night for a concert featuring blues all-stars of the past, present and future - and the president himself.

The surprise performance by Obama came at the end of the playlist when the blues ensemble was singing "Sweet Home Chicago," the blues anthem of Obama's home town.

Buddy Guy prodded the president, saying he'd heard that the president sang part of an Al Green tune recently, and adding, "You gotta keep it up."

Then Jagger handed over the mic, and Obama seemed compelled to comply.

"Come on, baby don't you want to go," the president sang out twice, handing off the mic to B.B. King momentarily, and then taking it back to tack on "Sweet Home Chicago" at the end.

Drunk Man At Disney's California Adventure Park- Full Video

Saturday opens with a man being restrained by two bellhops from the "Tower of Terror" ride in Disney's California Adventure theme park, notes LAist.

An elderly security guard then pepper sprays him in the face, and the man throws a punch in response. Park guests step in to throw the belligerent man to the ground and help restrain him until more security arrives.

While it's not yet known what led to the fight, hecklers' comments during the film give clues that the man may have been a vulgar nuisance for some time before the pepper spray was used.

One guest shouts, "You didn't wind up being so tough anymore, huh?"

Another laughs, "I think this guy's been drinking vodka!"

It takes about 3 minutes before more security staffers arrive as backup.

Elizabeth Smart, Former Kidnapping Victim

Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped at age 14 from her Utah home and held for what she described as "nine months of hell," exchanged vows on Saturday with her boyfriend of the past year at a private wedding in Hawaii, her uncle told Reuters.

Smart, 24, and Matthew Gilmour, whom she met while she was serving on a religious mission in Europe for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, tied the knot at a Mormon temple overlooking the Pacific on the island of Oahu, her uncle, Tom Smart, said.

A spokesman for Elizabeth Smart, Chris Thomas, added in a statement that the couple were accompanied by a small group of immediate family, and he described them as "beaming" as they left the temple on their way to a reception and luau.

They were to depart on an "extended honeymoon" after the day's festivities, Thomas said. Gilmour is 22, according to People magazine.

She was freed after being spotted by passers-by in a Salt Lake City suburb in 2003. Mitchell was convicted in 2010 of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines to engage in sexual activity. He was sentenced in May to life in prison.

Smart testified during Mitchell's trial, describing her time as his captive as "nine months of hell."

Mitchell's wife, Wanda Barzee, was sentenced to a 15-year prison term in 2010 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and cooperating with prosecutors in the case against Mitchell.

Vaginal Health: Infections And The Low-Down On Your 'Lady Flower'

Dr. Alyssa Dweck, gynecologist and co-author of "V is for Vagina," a guide on everything one needs to know about vajayjays, says the word vagina itself is still labelled "gross." And if that last sentence made you cringe a bit, you're not alone.

"The 'VJ' is still a somewhat taboo subject. I challenge you to hear the word 'vagina' on television, ever," she says.

What Dweck finds even more disappointing are findings from the Association of Reproductive Professionals that states only 49 per cent of women have performed a self-examination on their vaginas, and 24 per cent have not looked at their vaginas in a year or longer.

It's still important for women to know what's going on in their bodies -- this way, any changes in or around the vagina won't seem so foreign. Having a trusted medical professional's number in your phone is also a good idea.

"It's best for a young woman to get acquainted with and establish a relationship with a gyno, so if there is an issue, it won't feel threatening or frightening," Dweck explains.

A healthy vagina is naturally acidic and contains rich quantities of bacteria that help fend off infections and maintain a normal pH level, according to Everyday Health. Small amounts of discharge are a normal way the vagina cleanses itself, just as saliva is produced to help clean our mouths.

Dweck says education on our lady parts is key, and the conversation should start at home.

"Young girls are naturally curious and I find that if I initiate conversation in my office about condoms, oral sex, risk taking behaviours including multiple partners, substance abuse, online relationships and the like, it is well received and advice heeded," she says.

California Federal Building Shooting Video

Thursday was killed when a third agent drew his weapon and fired, the FBI said.

Several shots were fired about 5:30 p.m. in the Immigration Customs Enforcement office, leaving one man wounded, said Steven Martinez, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles office.

"Another agent, working nearby, intervened and fired his weapon to prevent additional rounds being fired at the victim," he said.

The gunman died at the scene and the wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Authorities released no details about what led to the initial shooting or the names of the dead gunman, the victim or the agent who fired the final rounds.

The Los Angeles Times, citing multiple law enforcement sources, said the initial shots were fired by an agent at his supervisor during an unspecified dispute.

There were conflicting early reports about the number of people shot, with local authorities saying two were dead and one wounded, while ICE said one was dead and one wounded.

The shooting happened on the seventh floor of the Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building in downtown Long Beach that houses ICE, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Probation and Parole Office.

The wounded agent is hospitalized in stable condition, said ICE Special Agent in Charge Claude Arnold.

Airline Wants You To Have Sex In Air Video

The airline, started by a group of pilot friends who dared each other that they couldn't get one couple to pay for a mid-air romp, is now a successful airline that takes people into the sky and lets them get it on.

"I have had a high heel in my ear once, been shot in the back of the head with a champagne cork, and thank God we wear headsets," "Captain" Dave MacDonald told Cincinnati's WCPO. He added: "What goes on behind the curtain is no concern of our ours. It is a matter of professionalism, our customers expect that. If I ever wrote a book it would be great."

Airline reps tell the station that they offer as many as eight flights a day, for one hour at a time.

So, who books these flights? Co-owner Sharon McGee told the station: "Probably 90 percent of these [flights] that are booked, are booked by women. Sometimes they are trying to put a spark in their relationship, some are trying to save their marriage."

The flight, which costs $425 per hour, includes champagne, chocolate and a "very discreet pilot," the Daily News reports. Couples can even choose their flight path to see specific landmarks.

Rat Delicacy In Thailand Video & Photos

In Thailand, roasted rodent meat has become something of a delicacy, according to a BBC report. More expensive than chicken or pork, a kilogram of rat meat goes for about $6.

In a video report, the BBC's Tom Santorelli reports on the Thai delicacy that many may find repugnant.

Professional rat-catchers start work before the sun rises, setting traps near the rat holes. It may sound gruesome, but their line of work is quick and nimble compared to the methods employed by some city-dwellers.

In Mumbai, the city's army of rat-hunters don't even mess around with traps; they go straight for the kill by smashing rats against the ground or bashing their heads in with sticks.

Kate Upton Poses In Red Bikini Photos

The cover shot, which has been leaked today but will officially debut this evening on "The Late Show with David Letterman," shows Upton in a barely-there string bikini, doing our favorite "armpit pose."

It's a huge score for the Michigan native, previously the face of Guess Lingerie and a covergirl for Cosmopolitan Bride. Upton only made her Sports Illustrated debut in 2011, but was named Rookie of the Year. The 19-year-old was rumored to be the favorite for 2012, as Page Six previously reported, favored for her "blond, all-American looks" (a clear shift from last year's cover girl, Russian beauty Irina Shayk).

She also is rumored to be dating New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, a nice coincidence given that this Swimsuit Issue will also feature athletes (in bodypaint, natch).

Lest you wait till tonight's Letterman episode to see Upton in all her swimsuit-clad glory, TMZ has rustled up a leaked photo. Check it out below and stay tuned for a clearer image... and the rest of the 2012 Swimsuit models!

Kyle Dyer, KUSA Anchor In Denver, Bit On The Face By Dog Rescued Video

3-year-old Argentine Mastiff, fresh off his rescue from the icy waters of Smith Reservoir, has bit veteran KUSA anchor Kyle Dyer on the face during a segment being filmed at at 9News studios this morning.
The dog, its owner and the firefighter involved in the Smith Reservoir rescue Tuesday afternoon were in 9News studios with Dyer for a follow up report on the dramatic rescue, according to The Denver Post. In the video below, Dyer is seen kneeling on the floor petting the dog's neck and getting close to its face, when suddenly Max, perhaps still traumatized from the rescue, bares his teeth, lunges and bites Dyer's face.

Dyer underwent reconstructive surgery for injuries to her lip on Wednesday, her recovery is expected to take several weeks, Fox31 reports. Meanwhile, Max is being quarantined at Denver Animal Shelter for 10 days to be observed for any signs of rabies.

On the 9News Facebook page, viewers reacted to the bite with sympathy for Dyer's injury. Some expressed that it might have been too early to put the dog on television or that perhaps Dyer may have been too close to the dog's face and that his "reaction was out of trauma."

The 3-year-old dog was off-leash "doing his business," according to 9News when he saw a coyote running out of a bush. Max took after after the coyote and both Max and the coyote wound up on the ice of the Smith Reservoir.

Unfortunately for Max the ice didn't hold up and only seconds later both he and the coyote fell into the icy water around 5 p.m. as the sun was beginning to set. Max's owner Michael Robinson told 7News that the coyote went under the icy water and was not spotted again, however Max kept paddling and was able to stay afloat.

Max paddled for about 20 minutes before the West Metro Fire Department came to the rescue. As seen in the video above, firefighter Tyler Sugaski, in a special cold-water rescue suit and tethered by a rope, waded over to the water's edge until he finally broke through the ice and fell into the frigid water himself.

Whale Shark Found Dead In Arabian Sea, Pakistan|Huge whale shark sold for $2200 in Pakistan

40-foot whale shark was brought into harbor in Karachi, Pakistan on Tuesday, Feb. 7. after reportedly being found unconscious in the Arabian Sea about 10 days ago, the Express Tribune reports.

The whale shark carcass was later sold for 1.7 million rupees (nearly $19,000), ABC News reports.

After a 2005 assessment, the International Union for Conversation of Nature and Natural Resources declared the global whale shark population was vulnerable, MSNBC observes.

For many years, whale sharks have been highly sought after by harpoon fisheries in Southeast Asia, where people primarily used the fish for meat and oil. However, it is now illegal to hunt whale sharks in several countries, including India and the Philippines.

Habitat damage has proven to be another threat to the whale shark population, according to the Whale Shark Project, a conservation awareness group. Pollution and overfishing near reefs often leads to a reduced available food supply for the creatures.

In an effort to help protect the animals, some businesses have turned to ecotourism to educate people about the sharks and their environment.

However, some tourists said expeditions often felt more "commercial" than educational, according to a VERA Files report.

Whale sharks are the world's largest fish, often growing to 40 feet or greater in length, National Geographic explains. Typically found swimming in warm, tropical waters, whale sharks are generally docile creatures.

Nevertheless, longtime fisherman Allan Amanse warns that getting too close to whale sharks might not be a good idea.

Prop 8, California's Same-Sex Marriage Ban, Declared

A federal appeals court on Tuesday declared California's same-sex marriage ban to be unconstitutional, putting the bitterly contested, voter-approved law on track for a likely appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that a lower court judge correctly interpreted the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court precedents when he declared in 2010 that Proposition 8 – a response to an earlier state court decision that legalized gay marriage – was a violation of the civil rights of gays and lesbians.

However, the appeals court said gay marriages cannot resume in the state until the deadline passes for Proposition 8 sponsors to appeal to a larger panel of the 9th Circuit. If such an appeal is filed, gay marriages will remain on hold until it's resolved.

"Although the Constitution permits communities to enact most laws they believe to be desirable, it requires that there be at least a legitimate reason for the passage of a law that treats different classes of people differently. There was no such reason that Proposition 8 could have been enacted," the ruling states.

Backers of Proposition 8 said they would ask the Supreme Court to overturn the 9th Circuit ruling.

"No court should presume to redefine marriage. No court should undercut the democratic process by taking the power to preserve marriage out of the hands of the people," said Brian Raum, senior counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal aid group based in Arizona that helped defend Proposition 8.

"We are not surprised that this Hollywood-orchestrated attack on marriage – tried in San Francisco – turned out this way. But we are confident that the expressed will of the American people in favor of marriage will be upheld at the Supreme Court," he said.

American Foundation for Equal Rights President Chad Griffin, who formed the group along with director Rob Reiner to wage the court fight against Proposition 8, called the panel's ruling "a historic victory."

Gisele to Tom Brady 'You Played the Best Game Of Your Life'- Full Video

Gisele Bundchen tried to comfort Tom Brady in the moments after the Super Bowl ... by LYING TO HIS FACE.

TMZ obtained video shot inside the stadium as Tom was on his way to address the media ... in which Gisele chases down Tom ... embraces him ... and whispers, "You played the best game of your life ... you were amazing."

Tom says a few words back ... and seems to appreciate the intent ... but then sends her away to talk to the press ... promising he'll only take a few minutes.

TMZ caught the supermodel consoling husband Tom Brady after his Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants Sunday.

In the video, a despondent Brady stalks out of the locker room to face the media, but not before Bundchen runs out after him and gives him a big reaffirming hug in front of the press.

"You played the best game of your life. You were amazing," she's heard whispering to him.

But though Brady smiled tightly and said a few words back, he continued on his way to the media room.

Bundchen was also caught on camera cursing his New England Patriots teammates, angrily telling everyone within earshot that her "husband cannot f--king throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time."

An angry Bundchen also quipped that she couldn't "believe they dropped the ball so many times" before taking an angry swig from her water bottle.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James only shook his head in response to a request for comment about the supermodel's badmouthing, but some Patriots fans were less sparing in their reactions.

Die Antwoord On David Letterman Video

Monday night -- the late-night television crowd. For those who'd never been exposed to the South African rappers before, their appearance on David Letterman may have been slightly terrifying, a sentiment shared by some South Africans who take issue with being represented by the trio. For the rest of us, this was a tamer version of the shock rappers: Yo-Landi looked as bug-eyed as always in a pair of black contacts and long white t-shirt (Alexander Wang?), DJ Hi-Tek wore a deformed face mask, and Ninja danced frantically in a orange jumpsuit to their clubby single, "I Fink U Freeky," off their just-released album Ten$ion.

Tim Tebow Teaches Alec Baldwin How To 'Tebow' - Full Video

That capped a nearly 10-minute monologue Saturday night on the eve of the Super Bowl as The Associated Press awards for the 2011 season were announced.

Baldwin started by walking into the glittery crowd, handing a football to Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers and asking the AP NFL Most Valuable Player to sign it.

The "30 Rock" star then tossed around the jokes, taking equal shots at the NFL, Madonna and the Kardashians, mostly to big laughs from the likes of Joe Namath, Rex Ryan and Cam Newton. All the while, Baldwin clutched his prized souvenir.

The evening's first presenter, Katy Perry, kept in the spirit.

"Hi Tim, my parents said hi," Perry told Tebow. Both of the 27-year-old singer's parents are pastors – Tebow was raised by missionary parents.

Early in his monologue, Baldwin pretended he saw Madonna – who's performing at halftime of the game between the New England Patriots and New York Giants in the audience. He pointed out it was instead Packers linebacker Clay Matthews.

Madonna's 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' Snippet Music Video

"American Idol" were treated to a sneak peek of Madonna's new music video for 'Give Me All Your Luvin,' the song she'll debut at her Super Bowl halftime performance.

The Martin Solveig-produced track also features rappers Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., who both make pretty minimal appearances in the clip below. We'll reserve our final judgment for when the entire video is released, but for some reason this clip recalls an Old Navy or Kohl's commercial. Perhaps it's that Madge keeps slipping in and out of jackets.

Also confusing is the scenery, which appears to be a suburban street filled with football players and taxi cabs sawed in half. The lyrics do demand that we "step into [Madonna's] world," so we'll just go with it.

Aurora Australis Time Lapse Captured

Alex Cherney has captured the unadulterated color and beauty of Aurora Australis, also know as the Southern Lights.

On his Vimeo page, Cherney explains that the red color captured in this time lapse "is caused by the charged particles from the sun exciting oxygen atoms high in the Earth's atmosphere."

The incredible scene was captured from Australia's Mornington Peninsula, just outside of Melbourne.

The auroras that occur near the Antarctic circle are called Aurora Australis, as opposed to the Arctic Circle auroras, which are called aurora borealis or the Northern Lights.

A software developer by day, Cherney lives in Melbourne, Australia, and is a member of Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society, according to his Facebook page.

Susan G. Komen Top Officials Resign

Susan G. Komen for the Cure's New York chapter, said she plans to resign from her position unless Komen reverses its decision to pull grant money from Planned Parenthood.

"I’m a physician and my interest is women’s health, and I am disturbed by Komen’s decision because I am a very strong advocate for serving under-served women," Plesser told The Huffington Post. "Eliminating this funding will mean there’s no place for these women to go. Where are these women to go to have a mammography? Do they not deserve to have mammography?"

With her decision, Plesser joins Komen's top public health official, Mollie Williams, and the executive director of Komen's Los Angeles County chapter, Deb Anthony, both of whom also resigned in protest.

Susan G. Komen, the nation's largest breast cancer charity, announced on Tuesday that it had adopted a new rule against partnering with organizations that are under investigation, and that it would therefore sever ties with Planned Parenthood, which is currently under investigation in Congress. The groups that prompted that investigation are anti-abortion advocacy organizations that have long criticized Planned Parenthood, primarily a women's health and family planning organization, over the fact that some of its clinics offer abortions.

Michelle Obama 'Tonight Show' Appearance - Full Video

Tuesday night's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," Michelle Obama explained to the world that her marriage includes a musical element.

Referring to President Obama's now-famous rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," Leno asked the First Lady, "Did you ever think at this point in your lives together he [President Obama] would become a singing sensation? Did you ever think that would happen?" She responded, "No. No. Not at all. Not at all."

Obama explained to Leno that the President's performance at Harlem's Apollo Theater was "completely spontaneous" and that she "didn't even hear about it until it got on YouTube." She told the late-night host that her husband "does have a beautiful voice, and he sings to me all the time."

When pressed about what types of music the Commander-In-Chief enjoys belting out, Obama said, "He sings a lot of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, a little Stevie [Wonder]. He likes the classics."
