Morning Joe: Mark Halperin calls Obama a DICK on live television

Mark Halperin, editor-at-large of Time magazine and senior political analyst for MSNBC, said on live TV Thursday morning that he thought President Barack Obama had been acting like a "dick."

Joe Scarborough, host of the MSNBC show "Morning Joe," the site of the gaffe, quickly called for what he thought was a seven-second delay button to be pushed. But apparently it had not been on, and you can see the result in the video below.
Scarborough was in disbelief over Halperin's comment and quickly directed his attention off-camera, saying, "Delay that. Delay that. What are you doing?"

Halperin apologized after the hosts realized that the show's new executive producer was not familiar with the seven-second delay button.

"Joking aside, this is an absolute apology. I shouldn't have said it. I apologize to the President and the viewers who heard me say that," Halperin said.

"We're going to have a meeting after the show," Scarborough said.

Scarborough also made light of the incident, telling his producer, “I would tell you what I think of him, but he doesn’t know what button to push.

Watch Video: 'Weeds' welcomes Michelle Trachtenberg in Season 7

Weeds Season 7

Weeds season 7 will debut tonight on Showtime and the popular series will pick up three years from where the last season left off. If you’re a fan of the show you may recall that during the last seconds of season 6 Nancy Botwin turned herself into the FBI as the rest of her family boarded a plane for Europe. The new season will find Botwin living in New York City after leaving a stint in prison.

It’s still unclear if Weeds will end after this season with show creator Jenji Kohan telling the LA Times that the season is being written so it could carry on with further episodes or end in a series finale.

In other news the game Weeds Social Club debuted in “closed beta” on Facebook today. The game requires that users grow and sell pot to save their homes and has been fashioned off the Weeds series. It’s still unclear if Facebook will take issue with the game, however since they currently allow Mafia Wars to be played I have a feeling it will be allowed. The game is said to be like Farmville for marijuana.

Japan earthquake today June 23, 2011 at 6.7 magnitude

JAPAN Magnitude 6.7 Quake Hits on June 23, 2011 Tsunami Alert Today Morning

A magnitude-6.7 earthquake has rattled north-east Japan in the same area where a massive quake triggered a deadly tsunami in March, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for the region after the quake, but cancelled it about an hour later.

The quake struck the region of the Pacific where a magnitude-9.0 quake hit on March 11, triggering a huge tsunami. At least 23,000 people were killed or left missing by those disasters, which destroyed hundreds of homes, offices and factories in north-eastern Japan.

The quake hit about 30 miles off the shore of Iwate prefecture, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Much of the coast in the area is still heavily damaged from March's disasters.

The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said it did not expect a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami.

The quake, 19.9 miles deep, caused tremors across the northern half of the country, including Tokyo, which is about 325 miles to the south-west.

It was followed by several smaller aftershocks, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Japan is located on the Ring of Fire, an arc of volcanoes and fault lines spanning the Pacific Basin, and is regularly hit by earthquakes.

Country singer Glen Campbell diagnosed with Alzheimer's, fans react online

(Credit: Gaye Gerard/Getty Images)
(CBS/What's Trending) - Country legend, Glen Campbell, revealed today that he has Alzherimer's and plans to put on one last farewell tour for fans in an exclusive interview with People. Campbell's announcement comes a few weeks after the iconic songwriter and performer received poor reviews for a concert in Carmel Indiana in which the singer reportedly "came across as unprepared at best and disoriented at worst. He mangled lyrics (despite unabashed use of video prompts on three onstage monitors), clanged countless off-key guitar notes and generated zero rapport with the crowd." Now fans know why as Campbell announces his fatal disease. In light of his condition and subsequent struggles, his wife Kim Campbell said that "Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer."

"But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn't want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?' " she added.

To Campbell his fans are everything and the farewell tour is his last hoorah with fans that have been with him 50 plus year career.
The singer is planning to release one final album as well before calling it quits, according to the Los Angeles Times. Campbell was a huge presence in the 60's and 70's with his Grammy winning smash "Gentle on My Mind". Campbell's influence also translated into a large presence on TV, even hosting his own variety hour on CBS called "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" In his career, Campbell has released more than 70 albums and has sold 45 million records. Campbell's reach went beyond music and was even handpicked by John Wayne to play alongside him in the film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Campbell also sang the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award. Here is one of Campbell's biggest hits, "Rhinestone Cowboy":

Flashing Breasts, Taylor Momsen Avoids Nip Slip With Electrical Tape Video

Taylor Momsen Avoids Nip Slip With Electrical TapeTaylor Momsen Avoids Nip Slip With Electrical TapeTaylor Momsen Avoids Nip Slip With Electrical Tape Taylor Momsen Avoids Nip Slip With Electrical Tape

See larger image

Taylor Momsen has once again stirred a little controversy and made herself the center of attention. Although she is still in her teen years, the actress who used to play Jenny Humphrey on "Gossip Girl" isn't afraid of baring her breasts in front of the audience while performing with her rock band The Pretty Reckless.

The 17-year-old songstress left very little to the imagination as she wore a black t-shirt with cut-out arm holes for her performance at the Download festival that was held at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England on Sunday, June 12. Still, she was careful enough to avoid nip slip by covering up her nipples with strips of black electrical tape.

In previous interview, Taylor insisted that she dresses for herself, rather than to be provocative. To MTV, she shared, "I dress in whatever makes me feel comfortable. I like a lot of leather, I like a lot of dresses. I guess it's been known to be provocative. But it's not for any other purpose than I dress for myself, and I do myself up kind of like a doll."

Michele Bachmann 2012: Congresswoman Running For President (VIDEO)

Michele Bachman 2012ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota

Rep. Michele Bachmann, an outspoken Republican with close ties to the tea party, announced Monday that she is running for president, a candidacy that could further shake up a volatile fight for the GOP nomination.
The first female contender to enter the 2012 race, Bachmann announced her bid during a Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire. The third-term Minnesota congresswoman has been leaning heavily toward a run over the past few months, visiting early primary states, raising money and railing against President Barack Obama.
"We cannot risk giving President Obama four more years to dismantle our nation. We must act now," Bachmann said in a fundraising letter sent within an hour of her entrance. "That's why I've made the decision to get in this race."
She brings high energy, charisma and proven fundraising ability to the race to nominate a Republican challenger to Obama. She also is known for unyielding stances, biting commentary and high-profile gaffes.
Bachmann is attempting the rare leap from the U.S. House to the presidency.
Despite having low seniority and few policy accomplishments, she has risen to prominence in Washington in part by her frequent television appearances and willingness to attack Obama in sharp terms.
Her popularity with tea party activists and her credentials as a social conservative make her a credible threat to other candidates courting conservatives who make up the core of the Republican Party. Her impact may be felt most in Iowa, the first stop in the nomination battle and where Christian evangelicals dominate.

While she hasn't built the broad campaign infrastructure of some GOP rivals, she has gradually patched together a blend of tested and fresh-but-determined advisers. She's also shown an ability to raise money from a network of small-dollar donors, including $13.5 million she put toward the nation's most expensive House race of 2010.
Bachmann spent the bulk of her political career in Minnesota and Washington as a minority party member, reveling in her role as a fierce voice of the opposition. She didn't let up when Republicans gained control of the U.S. House last fall, enhancing her standing through public breaks with party leaders after she was denied a place in caucus leadership.
The camera-friendly congresswoman has irked some party leaders by grabbing at the spotlight, such as the alternate televised response she delivered to Obama's State of the Union speech this winter.
Her willingness to speak her mind - she once accused Obama of running a "gangster government" - has brought her both loyal fans and plenty of critics. In 2009, she called it an "interesting coincidence" that the last swine flu outbreak in the U.S. occurred under a Democratic president, though it actually happened when Republican Gerald Ford was in office.
Since first hinting at a presidential campaign ahead of an Iowa speech in January, she has made sustained trips there and to New Hampshire and South Carolina, all places with an outsized voice in the nominating process. She previously told reporters she would announce her intentions this month in her birthplace of Waterloo, Iowa.
Veteran Republican campaign consultant Ed Rollins confirmed to The Associated Press that he would be Bachmann's campaign manager. He said a formal rollout hasn't been set.
"We are now a campaign committee and we will come out to Iowa sometime in the next couple of weeks," Rollins said.
Other full-fledged candidates include former Govs. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and businessman Herman Cain.
Still a possibility is Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee. Palin assisted Bachmann in her 2010 race. And while the two deny any inherent rivalry, the possibility they may both run in 2012 has already stirred up such talk.
Bachmann, 55, enters as a definite factor in Iowa's caucuses, not just because it is her native state and now neighbor. Despite her status as an elected official, she is attractive to GOP activists looking for a candidate with outsider appeal. She particularly resonates with the conservative coalition that led former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to a 2008 caucus win.
She has vigorously courted evangelical pastors during her early trips to Iowa. Bachmann has also landed the support of up-and-coming GOP players, including state Sen. Kent Sorenson, an ardent social conservative.
Sorenson is lined up to run Bachmann's Iowa campaign. Bachmann has also signed a former top deputy to Huckabee's 2008 Iowa campaign. However, it's not clear whether those hires and Bachmann's popularity with this segment of the caucus electorate would necessarily translate into organizational strength.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's decision to bypass the Iowa GOP's presidential straw poll in Ames gives Bachmann a stronger chance for a breakthrough moment a couple of months out of the gate.
Before politics, Bachmann was an attorney who at one point chased tax cheats for the federal government. A mother of five and foster parent over the years to more than 20 girls, Bachmann dove into public life during a fight over Minnesota school standards. She spent six years in the Minnesota Senate before winning an open seat Congress, where she's been since 2007.
Bachmann's husband, Marcus, runs a Christian-based counseling clinic.
Below, a video released by Bachmann's camp shortly after her she revealed her plans for the next election cycle during the debate.

LeBron James girlfriend love triangle girlfriend Savanna Brinson? rumors Video

LeBron James has struggled in the NBA Finals, scoring 11 points total over five fourth quarters and looking disinterested in action on the court during Game Four.

Might such poor play be blamed on the action off the court by girlfriend Savanna Brinson?

Rashard Lewis PictureLeBron James and Savannah Brinson

For the second time in two years, following his second baffling, passive playoff performance, an Internet rumor claims that a fellow basketball player has slept with someone close to the Heat superstar.

Last season, sources said teammate Delonte West got it on with LeBron's mom, Gloria.

Now, at least one website is reporting that Washington Wizards forward Rashard Lewis recently slept with Brinson, LeBron's long-term girlfriend, during a trip to Miami.

Claims someone who phoned in to 97.9 The Box:

"My buddy has a place in Orlando... and he lives among some athletes that live there. Needless to say he golfs, drinks, and parties with some of the best people in central Florida. So when word got to him while at the bar last night, he called me. Word got out while drinking with friends, that Rashard Lewis slept with Lebron's girl while visiting South Beach."

Not exactly iron-clad proof, is it?

Then again, what the heck is going on with LeBron James? Two different players banging his mom and his girlfriend in consecutive postseasons sounds ridiculous. But any more ridiculous than the most talented player in basketball playing so passively when it matters most

Neil Patrick Harris kicked off the 65th annual Tony Awards on Sunday 8 Best jokes

The "How I Met Your Mother" takes aim at "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," Daniel Radcliffe, Brooke Shields, Al Pacino and Angela Lansbury.

Neil Patrick Harris kicked off the 65th annual Tony Awards on Sunday with a song and dance number about how "the Tonys are not just for gays anymore."

During and after the performance, he took shots at several Hollywood stars as well as the troubled Broadway production Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

RELATED: Tony Awards: What Is the Real Worth of Winning?

Here are some of his best one-liners (some of which only those who have seen the shows might get):

-- "Good evening. I'm teen heartthrob Neil Patrick Harris."

-- "Brooke Shields! You're super hot! You made me think I was straight for like 23 years!"

-- "Angela Lansbury. You're super-straight. Are those things real?"

RELATED: Q&A: Host Neil Patrick Harris on Tony Awards: 'Book of Mormon' Is a Problem for Show Censors

-- "Al Pacino! You're way to famous to participate in this bit."

-- "You should see backstage. Backstage is madness. I just had to stop Daniel Radcliffe from poking out the War Horse's eyes." (Harris later explained the joke was a reference to Radcliffe's Broadway debut role in Equus.)

Vowing not to spend all night doing Spider-Man jokes, Harris decides instead to cram as many as he can into 30 seconds (he fit in six), including:

-- "I sent Bono [who composed the show's music with U2 bandmate the Edge] a congratulatory cable, but it snapped."

“My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.” Indeed, Wired reports, the new animated series

Meanwhile, while we were all watching grown-up TV shows like, y’know, “Glee,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “South Park,” an unlikely cartoon has captured the hearts and minds of geeky 20- and 30-something men.

My Little Pony

(Matt Cardy/Getty Images)

No, not “Family Guy.”
Not “The Simpsons.”
Not the new “Spider-Man.”

It’s … um … “My Little Pony.”

More specifically, the newest rendition of the classic 1980s cartoon – “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.” Indeed, Wired reports, the new animated series for young girls has gained a following from grown men who call themselves “bronies” – short for “bro ponies,” of course.

“First we can’t believe this show is so good, then we can’t believe we’ve become fans for life, then we can’t believe we’re walking down the pink aisle at Toys R Us or asking for the girl’s toy in our Happy Meal,” brony Luke Allen, 32, wrote in an email to Wired. “Then we can’t believe our friends haven’t seen it yet, then we can’t believe they’re becoming bronies too.”

Neither can I.

Here’s more from the Wired report:

Most people over the age of, say, 20 remember My Little Pony as a saccharine-smelling Hasbro toy and cartoon from the 1980s. In the decades since the release of the first line of ponies in 1982, there have been a number of dolls, TV shows and direct-to-DVD releases related to the My Little Pony name. Yet, save for a pop cultural archivist here and there (or perhaps a raver), very few of those variations have found an audience beyond the age-3-and-up children for whom My Little Pony is intended.

So, why the breathless adoration? Some fans say the show’s appeal lies in good illustration, excellent characters or, as Allen put it, a “perfect storm of ’80s nostalgia and cultural irony.” But nearly every fan Wired.com contacted can be far more specific about the source of the show’s genius: Lauren Faust.

Faust, as you know (right?), was a writer and artist on “The Powerpuff Girls,” a cute yet brash ’90s and ’00s show intended for girls that also gained an older, more masculine audience. I’ll admit, I watched it sometimes. (Hey, it was good! And nothing else was on.)

She helped reboot “My Little Pony” for Hub TV and Hasbro Studios, which also produces such shows as “Transformers Prime,” “G.I. JOE Renegades” and “Pound Puppies.”

“This might be a little short-sighted on my part, but I just assumed that any adult man who didn’t have a little girl wouldn’t even give it a try,” Faust, 36, told Wired. “The fact that they did and that they were open-minded and cool enough and secure in their masculinity enough to embrace it and love it and go online and talk about how much they love it — I’m kind of proud.”

I would think. But, much to the bronies’ chagrin, I’m sure, Faust is moving on from “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic,” Wired reports. The last episode of the first season aired last month.

Meanwhile, to keep themselves occupied – and just for poops and giggles – bronies have been creating a slew of Web content that honors “My Little Pony.” Think YouTube mashups of, for instance, the audio from “The Watchmen” movie trailer with footage from the cartoon (see below). There is, of course, a “Hitler Reacts To…” video in which Hitler himself is a brony. And “My Little Pony” fan art on the 4chan image-sharing forum (or the brony one, Ponychan), Wired reports.

Maybe these geeks are on to something.

Read more about the brony craze on Wired’s website.

Jenson Button Q&A: It's the best victory of my career 13 Jun 2011

http://www.formula1.com/wi/500x400/sutton/2011/d11cdn2124.jpg
Sunday’s spectacular Canadian race had highs and lows for most of the drivers, but it was probably McLaren’s Jenson Button who experienced some of the biggest troughs and peaks in Montreal. And Button was understandably emotional after emerging victorious from a tumultuous ride, which saw him collide with his team mate, pit five times and receive a drive-through penalty. He relives all the action…

Q: Jenson, how does it feel?
Jenson Button:
It is truly fantastic. During races, under such difficult conditions, it is essential to keep on fighting because you never know what can happen. Obviously I’ve made some unscheduled pit stops with some broken parts on my car but that didn’t hamper me from securing victory on the last lap. It is a special day indeed. It has been quite a long time since my last win, but even if I hadn’t won the race I would be very happy because I enjoyed it so much fighting my way through. When you put one over someone with a move it means a lot. The car was great today, especially in the dry conditions. An amazing victory and I don’t think I could have done anything better. It feels great - especially after Monaco where we thought we would do better. Okay Sebastian made a mistake, but I think we deserved it to win.

Q: You collided with your teammate. What are your thoughts on that?
JB:
I don’t really want to say anything. I couldn’t see anything - it was behind me. I just saw something orange, which could have been my rear wing, and I moved to the left, which was the racing line. And then I felt a bang. You don’t want to pressure your team mate, but Lewis knows that, as well as I do. We spoke before the race was restarted again and we cleared it all up. We both agreed that it was one of those racing incidents. With Fernando (Alonso), I feel I did nothing wrong. I was on the inside and he suddenly accelerated, which I found very unusual.

Q: Today’s result puts you in second in the drivers’ championship…
JB:
Well, I don’t really want to think about that now. I just want to enjoy this win because it’s a long time since I won.

Q: Was it your sweetest victory since winning the championship?
JB:
Yes, indeed it is. Last year was somewhat special because I jumped into a new car and I went through some very tough races and difficult circumstances, but here we are again. So yes, it is a very sweet moment. Probably today was the best victory of my career. They have all been special, but today was extra special. I have to admit that without KERS and the DRS it would have been very difficult to win. Using KERS and the DRS correctly makes a bit difference.

Q: Aside from your perfect use of KERS and DRS, you seemed to be the best man at understanding the tyres too…
JB:
Yes, I guess I understood the tyres today very well. But also our car understood the tyres well - and my engineers. I think the calls that we made were very good. I was really able to push the dry tyres at the end of the race. I was so on the edge when I was chasing down Vettel. Indeed I couldn’t get any more out of the car. But it was enough!

Q: If somebody would have told you before the race that you would pit six times and still win, what would you have said?
JB:
That this person has a great imagination! This is such a difficult track to race in the dry, but in the wet it is awesome. You have so little grip - and then you fight your way through the whole field from last - it’s amazing. I remember the team telling me at the second to last safety car that I’ve got the catch the field! Catch the field as much as you can! When the safety car came in I was in 20th and then to pass all those cars for the win, is simply phenomenal! I will have a smile on my face for a long time!

Q: How did that last lap feel for you?
JB:
I was actually pushing hard over the last couple of laps. I was driving very aggressively for me, and on the last lap I thought that I was closing in just enough to have a go at Sebastian on the back straight. I knew with DRS it would be possible to pass on there so I hoped to get close enough to have a go into the last chicane. Well, I didn’t need that opportunity because Sebastian made a mistake - and for once luck was on our side. I think we deserved a bit of luck today.

New Gabrielle Giffords: First Photos on Facebook (06.12.11)

Thousands more have visited the social networking site just hours after the pictures were posted. They are the first clear snapshots of Giffords since the shooting five months ago during a constituent meet-and-greet in a Safeway parking lot in Tucson, Ariz.

The photos also represent an important step in a story of survival, strength and private perseverance for the American people.

Photojournalist P.K. Weis, who took the photos of Congresswoman Giffords on May 17, the day after the launch of Endeavour and just a day before she had her latest surgery, said any photographer in the country would have loved to have taken the photos.

After the photos were taken by Weis, she continued her remarkable recovery after her last surgery when doctors inserted a plastic implant to replace the piece of skull that had been removed. Doctors had previously removed the portion of skull to ease pressure on her brain, which swelled after she was shot in the head.

The two photos, one of the congresswoman and the other with her mother taken in front of the TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital, reveal a determined woman who still has a sparkle in her eye, friends said.

Those close to Giffords said her recovery has been nothing less than miraculous and although she has a long road ahead of her, the photos show the public proof of her progress.

“Wow! I saw her at the very end of March, and even then, Gabby was all there, her smile, her personality," posted Linda Lopez, Arizona State Senator and friend of Giffords.

"And she looks even better now. I think people are going to be very happy to see how great she looks. For someone who’s undergone what she’s endured, it’s really something. I feel relieved. She looks beautiful.”

Dr. Gerardo Francisco, the chief medical officer at TIRR Memorial Hermann, said Giffords has "great rehabilitation potential."

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in a recent interview that she had a “wonderful conversation” with Rep. Giffords on the telephone this week.

“She talked in full sentences and initiated the conversation instead of just responding. We cannot wait for her to come back here (to Washington),” Wasserman said.

Weis has known Giffords for more than a decade, since before she was first elected to the Legislature. He said he was impressed with Giffords’ ”remarkable progress” from her shooting in January.

“It was very inspiring to see how much she had recovered in four and a half months,” photojournalist P.K. Weis said in a statement.

“I was excited to see her and to see her smile. She was glad to see me, was in a good mood, smiling and laughing and seemed to enjoy the experience. I certainly did, too.”

Giffords could be released from a rehabilitation hospital in Houston sometime this month, a top aide said Sunday.

After that she will probably be relocated in her home environment.

Her spokeswoman, Pia Carusone, has cautioned that Giffords still has a long way to go in her recovery.

Giffords was shot in the head in January when an assailant opened fire outside a grocery store during a meeting with constituents, killing six people and wounding 13 others.

The congresswoman and her staff held the first “Congress on Your Corner” at the conclusion of the first week of the 112th Congress.

Giffords said she wanted to hold the “Congress on Your Corner” to allow residents of Arizona’s 8th Congressional District to have one-on-one discussions about any issue, concern or problem involving the federal government.

The assassination attempt left Giffords in critical condition; the bullet went straight through her brain, but the hospital physicians were consistent and said her outlook was "optimistic" and that she was responding to commands from doctors.

A 9-year-old child was among the killed, and a U.S. Marshal said a federal judge was also fatally shot in the attack.

Giffords, 40, is a moderate Democrat who narrowly won re-election in November against a tea party candidate who sought to throw her from office over her support of the health care law.

She is married to astronaut Mark E. Kelly, who has piloted space shuttles Endeavour and Discovery. The two met in China in 2003 while they were serving on a committee there, and were married in January 2007.

Giffords is known in her southern Arizona district for her numerous public outreach meetings, which she acknowledged in an October interview that "it can sometimes be challenging."

"You know, the crazies on all sides, the people who come out, the planet earth people," she said, following an appearance with Adm. Mike Mullen.

For now, it has been reported that Jared Loughner, the man accused in the January shooting of Giffords and the others, has been declared incompetent to stand trial in the case.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns relied on the findings of two forensic mental-health professionals who evaluated Loughner at a federal prison complex in Missouri, according to media reports.

Judge Burns ordered that Loughner be tested again in four months. If, after treatment, he is then determined to be competent, the court proceedings can move forward.

Video: Tracy Morgan Apologizes For Anti-Gay Rant During Nashville Comedy Show

Tracy Morgan Apologizes My Fans and Gay & Lesbian Community During Nashville Comedy Show

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Former Saturday Night Live star and current ’30 Rock’ funnyman Tracy Morgan has issued an apology for delivering what some deemed an anti-gay tirade during a recent comedy show.

Morgan issued a statement Friday to The Huffington Post through his representative:

“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

Here’s what likely prompted the apology. During his show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on June 3, Morgan delivered more than a few gay jokes, but went on an anti-gay rant, according to a now-former Morgan fan who attended the show.

Kevin Rogers posted a review of sorts on his Facebook page following the show. Below is an excerpt of Rogers’ post (edited for profanity):

He mentioned that gay was something kids learn from the media and programming, and that bullied kids should just bust some ass and beat those other little f***ers that bully them, not whine about it.

He said if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high-pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death.

He mentioned that Barack Obama needed to man up and quit being all down with this just because he has a wife and two daughters. All of this being followed by thunderous cheer and “You go Tracys.” Tracy then said he didn’t [expletive] care if he pissed off some gays.

Rogers insists he’s a longtime fan of Tracy’s and expected some gay jokes to be part of the routine. He ended his post by saying, ”I’m not angry… just very very disappointed.”

Rogers appeared on CNN Friday and said he accepted Morgan’s apology.

The Huffington Post reported that this is not the first time Morgan went on a homophobic tirade during a show. In 2009, some audience members walked out of Morgan’s bawdy performance at Carnegie Hall.

Selena Gomez was rushed to the hospital just after appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night.
Drama: Selena Gomez wash rushed to hospital last night following an appearance on the Jay Leno show suffering a severe headache and nausea
On last night's (June 9) 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,' singer/actress Selena Gomez graced viewers with her youthful visage. There to talk about her upcoming album and relationship with pop sensation Justin Bieber, Gomez was couched between Leno and funny man Jim Carrey.

Selena spoke of how she felt uncomfortable when posing for magazines when Carrey butted in saying "Do they make you vomit?" Even though Gomez laughed off the comment, it appears that she actually did fall ill after her appearance.

According to TMZ, Gomez was rushed to the hospital after she complained of having a severe headache while feeling nauseous. The exact cause of her illness is still not known but sources say that she is still at a Los Angeles based hospital undergoing tests.

Fellow popstar Jennifer Hudson was hospitalized just this morning for abdominal pains. We hope they both feel better soon!

Watch Video: Woman Could Get 15 Years for Recording Cops After One Of Them Allegedly Assaulted Her

When Chicago police answered a domestic disturbance call at the home of Tiawanda Moore and her boyfriend in July 2010, the officers separated the couple to question them individually. Moore was interviewed privately in her bedroom. According to Moore, the officer who questioned her then came on to her, groped her breast and slipped her his home phone number.

Robert Johnson, Moore's attorney, says that when Moore and her boyfriend attempted to report the incident to internal affairs officials at the Chicago Police Department, the couple wasn't greeted warmly. "They discouraged her from filing a report," Johnson says. "They gave her the runaround, scared her, and tried to intimidate her from reporting this officer -- from making sure he couldn't go on to do this to other women."

Ten months later, Chicago PD is still investigating the incident. Moore, on the other hand, was arrested the very same afternoon.

Her crime? At some point in her conversations with internal affairs investigators, Moore grew frustrated with their attempts to intimidate her. So she began to surreptitiously record the interactions on her Blackberry. In Illinois, it is illegal to record people without their consent, even (and as it turns out, especially) on-duty police officers.

"This is someone who is already scared from being harassed by an officer in uniform," said Johnson. "If the police won't even take her complaint, how else is a victim of police abuse supposed to protect herself?"

Moore's case has inspired outrage from anti-domestic abuse groups. "We just had two Chicago police officers indicted for sexual assault, there have been several other cases of misconduct against women," says Melissa Spatz of the Chicago Task Force on Violence Against Girls & Young Women. "And now you have Moore, who was trying to report this guy, and she gets arrested. The message here is that victims of unwanted sexual advances by police officers have no recourse -- that the police can act with impunity."

If the Chicago cops recently indicted for sexual assault are convicted, they'll face four to 15 years in prison. That's the same sentence Tiawanda Moore is facing for trying to document her frustrations while reporting her own alleged sexual assault: Recording an on-duty police officer in Illinois is a Class 1 felony, the same class of crimes as rape.

ILLINOIS' PROBLEM WITH PRIVACY

Last summer the U.S. media took note of several stories about citizens arrested for photographing or recording on-duty police officers. National coverage of these incidents has since died down, but the arrests haven't stopped.

Some of these arrests have come under decades-old wiretapping laws that never anticipated the use of cellphones equipped with cameras and audio recording applications. Others have come under vaguer catch-all charges like refusing to obey a lawful order, disorderly conduct, or interfering with a police officer. In both cases, the charges rarely stick, and in most cases, it's the cops themselves who are violating the law.

The media have largely done a poor job reporting on what the law actually is in these states. Technically, so long as a person isn't physically interfering with an on-duty police officer, it's legal to record the officer in every state but Massachusetts and Illinois. Arrests still happen in other states, but there's little legal justification for them, and the charges are usually dropped, or never filed at all.

But Illinois is the one state where the law clearly forbids citizens from recording of on-duty cops. And so it seems likely that if the Supreme Court or a federal appeals court does eventually decide if pointing a camera at a cop is protected by the First Amendment (so far, they haven't), the case will come from Illinois. (Courts in Massachusetts have generally held that secretly recording police is illegal, but recording them openly isn't.)

Illinois' wiretapping law wasn't always this bad. Originally, the statute included a provision found in most other state wiretapping laws stating that, in order for someone to be prosecuted for recording a conversation, the offended party must have had a reasonable expectation that the conversation was private.

Watch: The Government's War On Cameras

So far, every court in the country to have considered the issue has found that on-duty cops have no such expectation of privacy. This makes sense. Police not only work for the public, they're also entrusted with enormous power: They can arrest citizens and detain them or kill them.

In 1986, the Illinois Supreme Court threw out the eavesdropping conviction of a man who had recorded two police officers from the back of a patrol car for just that reason. The court ruled that the officers had no expectation of privacy.

So in 1994 the Illinois state legislature removed the wiretap law's privacy provision. It was an explicit effort to override the decision eight years earlier. Technically the amended law covers everyone -- anyone whose voice is recorded without their permission, for any reason, could file a complaint and ask to press charges -- but it's used almost exclusively to protect police.

So far, HuffPost has yet to find anyone who has actually been convicted under the law. Instead, police arrest and charge someone they catch recording them, but the charges are dropped or reduced to misdemeanors before trial.

In 2004, for example, documentary filmmaker Patrick Johnson was arrested under the law while recording footage for a movie about relations between blacks and police in the Illinois cities of Champaign and Urbana. Johnson fought the charges with help from the state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). But after the district attorney who was prosecuting him lost in the next election, the new prosecutor dismissed the charges.

THE STATE v. CITIZENS

An actual conviction under the eavesdropping law would likely bring a constitutional challenge, which could well lead to the law being overturned in court. It could also lead to the U.S. Supreme Court or the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit more broadly affirming a First Amendment right to record police, which of course would have ramifications outside of Illinois.

As long as no one is convicted, the law is unlikely to be challenged. That means police can continue to rely on it to harass and intimidate citizens who try to hold them accountable, or who want an independent record of what they believe to be police harassment.

Moore's case may prove to be just the opportunity free speech advocates are looking for. But her case was continued again this week, despite the fact that she's been asking for months to go to trial.

The person pursuing the charges against Moore is Anita Alvarez, the state's attorney for Cook County, home to Chicago. (Alvarez's office declined to comment for this report.)

It's difficult to think of another big city in America where citizens would be more justified in wanting an objective account of an interaction with a police officer. At about the time Moore's story hit the pages of The New York Times earlier this year, for example, former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for lying under oath about his role in the routine torture of hundreds of suspects in police interrogation rooms for more than a decade. Nearly everyone else involved in the tortures, including the police commanders and prosecutors who helped cover them up, couldn't be prosecuted due to statutes of limitations.

Over the last few years, surveillance video has also exposed a number of police abuses in Chicago, including one episode in which an off-duty cop savagely beat a female bartender who had refused to continue serving him. He was sentenced to probation.

In 2008, the city made national headlines with another major scandal in which officers in the department's Special Operations Unit -- alleged to be made up of the most elite and trusted cops in Chicago -- were convicted of a variety of crimes, including physical abuse and intimidation, home robberies, theft and planning a murder.

In a study published the same year, University of Chicago Law Professor Craig B. Futterman found 10,000 complaints filed against Chicago police officers between 2002 and 2004, more than any city in the country. When adjusted for population, that's still about 40 percent above the national average. Even more troubling, of those 10,000 complaints, just 19 resulted in any significant disciplinary action. In 85 percent of complaints, the police department cleared the accused officer without even bothering to interview him.

Yet Alvarez feels it necessary to devote time and resources to prosecuting Chicagoans who, given the figures and anecdotes above, feel compelled to hit the record button when confronted by a city cop.

In addition to Moore's, there are two other cases that may present an opportunity to challenge the Illinois law. One is that of Michael Allison.

This Robinson, Ill., man is facing four counts of violating the eavesdropping law for the recordings he made of police officers and a judge. Allison was suing the city to challenge a local zoning ordinance that prevented him from enjoying his hobby fixing up old cars: The municipal government was seizing his cars from his property and forcing him to pay to have them returned. Allison believed the local police were harassing him in retaliation for his lawsuit, so he began to record his conversations with them.

When Allison was eventually charged with violating the zoning ordinance, he asked for a court reporter to ensure there would be a record of his trial. He was told that misdemeanor charges didn't entitle him to a court reporter. So Allison told court officials he'd be recording his trial with a digital recorder.

When Allison walked into the courtroom the day of his trial, the judge had him arrested for allegedly violating her right to privacy. Police then confiscated Allison's digital recorder, where they also found the recordings he'd made of his conversations with cops.

Allison has no prior criminal record. If convicted, he faces up to 75 years in prison.

In a hearing last week, Allison argued that the Illinois eavesdropping case was a violation of the First Amendment. The judge ordered a continuance so that the office of Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan can prepare a response. (Madigan's office did not respond to HuffPost's request for comment.)

The other case to challenge the wiretap law is that of Christopher Drew, an artist who was arrested in December 2009 for selling art without a permit on the streets of Chicago. Drew recorded his arrest, and now faces four to 15 years for documenting the incident.

In a hearing last December, Cook County Assistant State Attorney Jeff Allen invoked homeland security, arguing that Drew's recording could have picked up police discussing anti-terrorism tactics. Drew's case was suspended after he was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year.

Both Allison and Drew say they won't accept the sort of plea bargain Illinois prosecutors have offered in the past. Both say they're willing to risk prison time to get the law overturned.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRANSPARENCY

The ACLU of Illinois is also challenging the law. But in January, U.S. District Court Judge Suzanne B. Conlon ruled against the organization. Conlon wrote that the First Amendment does not protect citizens who record the police. The ACLU has appealed and expects to participate in oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit sometime in the fall.

In a report released just this month, the United Nations noted the importance of Internet access and personal technology in facilitating the recent Arab Spring uprisings in the Middle East. Technology has given citizens all over the world a remarkable and historic tool to bring transparency to the most brutal and oppressive governments.

But even as Americans have criticized those countries for attempting to prevent protesters from uploading photo, video, blog posts and Twitter accounts of government crackdowns, government officials in the U.S. are still arresting, threatening, intimidating and harassing Americans who attempt to document police abuse in America. (See this example over Memorial Day in Miami.)

No, America isn't Egypt or Yemen or Iran. But while the scale of the suppression is different, the premise is the same: When a citizen and a police officer have a confrontation, the police officer's narrative has always been given deference by prosecutors, judges and juries -- in the same way governments in more oppressive parts of the world have the power to project their own version of events as truth.

Citizens in America and across the globe now have the ability to preserve and present a more objective narrative. This is a positive thing -- for democracy, for good government and for a fairer criminal justice system. U.S. courts and legislatures need to make it abundantly, unambiguously clear that not only do citizens have the right to record on-duty police officers, but that cops and prosecutors who violate that right will be held accountable.

Tracy Morgan Apologizes for Homophobic Rant Huffington Post Video

Tracy Morgan issued a statement to The Huffington Post through his representative:

“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”
_____

PREVIOUSLY: Tracy Morgan's latest standup set is no laughing matter.

Kevin Rogers attended Morgan's standup show last Friday and reported on his Facebook page that Morgan let loose a viciously homophobic rant that, as far as he could tell, was a dead serious attack on gay men and women. Rogers, who is gay, wrote:

I figured at some point the gay jokes would fly and I'm well prepared for a good ribbing of straight gay humor. I have very thick skin when it comes to humor; I can dish and I can take. What I can't take is when Mr. Morgan took it upon himself to mention about how he feels all this gay s*it was crazy and that women are a gift from God and that "Born this Way" is bulls*it, gay is a choice, and the reason he knows this is exactly because "God don't make no mistakes" (referring to God not making someone gay cause that would be a mistake).

Perhaps most strikingly, Rogers wrote that Morgan said:

He said if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death.

Rogers continued to describe the rant, which we've excerpted:

He took time to visit the bulls*it of this bullying stuff and informed us that the gays needed to quit being pussies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying. He mentioned that gay was something kids learn from the media and programming, and that bullied kids should just bust some ass and beat those other little f*ckers that bully them, not whine about it.

After making comments about President Obama, Rogers wrote that Morgan finished his rant defiantly:

Tracy then said he didn't f*cking care if he pissed off some gays, because if they can take a f*cking dick up their ass... they can take a f*cking joke.

As it stands, Morgan's reps refused to comment to gay issues site Unicornbooty.com, writing, "There is no comment, thank you for your inquiry."

The Ryman Auditorium issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter about the alleged outburst, saying, "The Ryman Auditorium regrets that people were offended by statements made by Tracy Morgan during his June 3 appearance. The Ryman does not control the content presented by people appearing on its stage, nor does it endorse any of the views of, or statements made by, such persons."

Morgan has a history of homophobic tirades on stage, saying that being gay was a choice, among other things, at a 2009 standup performance at New York's Carnegie Hall.

In his acting career, however, Morgan has often played gay or at least sexually ambiguous. He played a transvestite inmate in the Adam Sandler comedy, "The Longest Yard," and many of his "Saturday Night Live" characters were of questionable sexuality, including the sophomoric zookeeper Brian Fellows.

The Huffington Post has reached out to his representative for comment, and will update if any statement is given.

Country cutie Jason Aldean took to the 2011 CMT Music Awards stage with rapper Ludacris for "Dirt Road Anthem," the third single off Aldean's 2010 studio album "My Kinda Party."

It is actually a re-recording of the song, as it was first released by country rapper Colt Ford for his 2008 album "Ride Through the Country," with Brantley Gilbert on vocals. Gilbert later recorded his own version.

But the Jason Aldean/Ludacris version is the hit, peaking at the no. 9 spot on the Country Billboard chart. What did you think? Pretty awesome? We thought it was a great way to end the awards show.

Shania Twain Responds to CMT Music Awards Fall (Video)

Shania Twain has spoken up about her nasty fall at the 10th Annual CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night, June 8. In a video she posted on her WhoSay account shortly after the incident, the country pop singer assures her fans that she didn't hurt herself, but is thinking about auctioning off the shoes she wore to the awards show.

Calling the fall on live television "one of life's most embarrassing moments", the 45-year-old singer goes on to say that she doesn't want to see the shoes ever again. Still, she clearly hasn't made up her mind on what to do with the shoes since she is quick to add that she may keep them as souvenirs instead.

Shania took a hard tumble on the floor when she was making her way to the stage inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee to present Male Video of the Year. Although she looked to be in pain after the spill, the "From This Moment On" hitmaker recovered quickly and laughed at the mishap.

The five-time Grammy Award winner kicked off the awards show with a parody of "Thelma and Louise". Channeling her outlaw side, she pre-recorded the clip with country beauty Taylor Swift. In her response video for the fall, the singer mentioned a little bit about the sketch when she joked that she doesn't need a stunt double
